Role & Responsibilities:

The role is to act as a Financial Controller for Real Estate funds domiciled in the UK, Channel Islands and Ireland and to review / oversee the work of the Spartan offices before it is delivered to external clients.

A key part of the role is to ensure good quality service is maintained throughout and that client expectations are met / exceeded. Adherence to reporting deadlines and being a ‘first point of contact’ for client queries / questions are key to success in this position in addition to the following:

  • Active participation in client pitches as required
  • Ensuring excellent client service delivery to existing clients
  • Managing the delivery of work from the Spartan office in line with the Operating Model and the reporting timetable
  • Ensuring all Spartan office deliveries to clients are subject to thorough review and sign-off (evidenced) before delivery to client
  • Supporting product innovation and the expansion of YARDI use for existing and new clients
  • Constantly work to improve performance standards and the quality of service delivery
  • Primary focus will be UK, Channel Islands, and Ireland, however it is also required to support teams globally as needed under direction of line manager
  • Establishing the highest standards of work delivery are maintained
  • Liaising closely with external third parties such as auditors, lawyers and tax advisers to ensure fund reporting deliverables are met
  • Maintaining a good level of knowledge of industry issues including AREF, IFRS updates, fund structures and other industry issues
  • Working with other Apex teams including Client Relationship Managers, Company Secretarial, On-boarding and Support teams
  • Ensuring statutory reporting requirements are met in a timely manner.
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA), 5 years+ PQE
  • Knowledge of Real Estate accounting – e.g. rent straight lining, SPV accounting, fund reporting, familiar with role of property manager / fund manager etc
  • Experience of working on YARDI platform
  • Working knowledge of fund structures – REITs, PLCs, Ltd Partnerships, club deals
  • Good knowledge of IFRS; local GAAP knowledge useful
  • Hands-on consolidation experience – including FX, Minority Interest and reconciliation of intercompany balances
  • Experience of audit process from planning and testing, to production of Financial Statements and Board approval / sign off
  • Self-starter; sets and expects high standard of work; plans workload and deliverables to meet deadlines
  • Focused on great delivery/outcomes for clients and the wider business, strives to deliver outstanding service to clients
  • High integrity, good communication skills, thinking creatively to deliver solutions.
