Summary of role

Apex is looking for a highly motivated individual to join its Risk Management team as Senior Risk Manager for Jersey and Guernsey. The role, reporting directly into the Head of Governance will be responsible for ensuring both businesses are aware and operate within the Apex Group risk appetite; ensuring adherence with specific Apex Group policies and reporting on key business risks and associated action plans to the relevant legal entity Boards.

Job Specification

  • To identify all business risks (including financial crime risk) in conjunction with the businesses and manage and monitor these risks in line with Apex Group Risk Appetite statement;
  • To ensure that the effective operation of risk management can be evidenced and provide confidence of appropriate risk management of all the businesses to internal and external stakeholders;
  • To assess, in conjunction with the businesses on any implementation changes in the regulatory environment and impact on the business;
  • To provide independent detailed and ongoing reviews and comprehensive maintenance of KPIs, Risk Registers and Dashboards
  • The delivery of monthly risk dashboards and KPIs to the businesses quarterly risk committee;
  • To represent the business, as necessary, in response to proposed legislation and at internal and external working groups;
  • The management of implementation of any amended Risk Apex Group policies;
  • To work with relevant business Data Protection Officers (DPOs) to ensure compliance with Apex Group data protection policies and the production of the Monthly GDPR MI Reports for sub committees;
  • To report to the relevant legal entity Boards on risk issues at the quarterly Board meetings and as and when necessary;
  • To liaise with Group Internal Audit and External Audit assisting in the smooth execution of audit processes including the initial agreement of audit Terms of reference.
  • To work with and monitor the businesses’ clearance of audit actions within agreed timeframes
  • To perform deep dive risk reviews as required by the relevant business from time to time;
  • To provide education and training to staff to strengthen risk awareness and to maintain a healthy risk-based culture;
  • To maintain the Terms of Reference for the businesses’ Risk Committees and ensuring that the Risk Committee packs are delivered in a timely and accurate manner ahead of each scheduled meeting.
  • To continually review the content of each Risk committee pack in light of businesses developing risk profile, regulatory position and industry best practice.
  • To ensure timely and accurate minutes of risk meetings are prepared.
  • Strong independent character able to listen and assess views of others and yet maintain position if compromise is not acceptable
  • High level of communicative skills required to communicate complex and often very sensitive issues
  • Good time management skills in order to organise and manage department efficiently
  • A good level of commercial awareness in view of business management role within management team and also to fully understand client objectives/schemes
  • Conceptual formation and analytic skills in order to analyse complex issues involving human emotions and objectives and determining the recommended action.

Key technical skills:

  • Experience in role as Nominated Officer;
  • Experience of JFSC and GFSC Handbook is beneficial but not compulsory;
  • Experience of managing, planning and performing audits
  • Good understanding of operational risk
